Watch someone use a well-made interface and you will notice they never ask where something came from. That is motion doing quiet work: elements arriving from where they belong, transitions explaining relationships, focus moving with intention.

Motion explains

A card that lifts on hover is a sentence: this is one thing, and you can press it. A page that fades while the next rises says: you have moved, but you are in the same place. None of this needs words — movement carries it.

Restraint is the skill

  • Fast enough to feel responsive, slow enough to be read
  • Few effects, applied consistently
  • Always respectful of reduced-motion settings

The best compliment an interface can receive is that it feels obvious. Motion, used as a language rather than an effect, is usually why.
